Optikammer is a cabinet of interactive optical curiosities.

In the early 1800s, "philosophical toys" were designed as educational amusements for people of all ages. Often derived from experiments on perception and the illusion of motion, they served as a bridge between popular culture and emerging science.

In the later 1800s, Chronophotography developed as a means of capturing time-based imagery using specially adapted cameras. Successive phases of motion were recorded as a series of separate frames, or as single photos made of superimposed moments.

Playing directly with original materials pleasingly reveals the odd ingenuity of these ventures - now known as the precursors of cinema, animation and video games.

Optikammer is made for exhibiting in public spaces and private places. It is available in different formats to fit any type of venue. Content can be adjusted according to context.
